Freshwater ecosystems provide important services and harbor unique biota; however, watershed degradation, species invasion, and poor management have led to imperilment of freshwater rivers, lakes, and wetlands, and a global freshwater biodiversity crisis. In this seminar, we will read and discuss recent scientific literature related to threats, conservation, and restoration of freshwater ecosystems (streams, lakes, wetlands) and biota. Topics may include: dam removal, stormwater management, climate change adaptation, imperiled species conservation, water management, urban restoration, invasive species, and other topics of interest to the students.
