Visual Learning is a unique first-year seminar designed to introduce students to college life and campus resources through the lens of drawing. Through this course, students will learn to utilize drawing as a study tool to enhance comprehension, retention, and critical thinking skills. This seminar aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and community engagement in a supportive and interactive environment. No previous drawing skills are required. Students will learn about visual note-taking methods, exploring various techniques like drawings, sketches, and diagrams to enhance comprehension and retention. They will then put these skills to use by exploring campus life and visiting key resources such as libraries and student centers to create visual representations, deepening their understanding of campus culture. Finally, they'll attend live events at UMass, where they'll practice real-time visual note-taking, capturing key points and themes through drawings and sketches, refining their visual communication abilities in an engaging context.

First-year (R1ST) Students will need one composition notebook, pencils, and a few markers and crayons for the class.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
