This class is about LGBTQ+ issues related to children, teens, and young adults in schools and college. This is a big and broad topic, but we will narrow it down based on your interests as we move through the semester. We will also cover some ?college tips? to help you successfully navigate your first year of college. Some of the LGBTQ+ related themes we might explore include: the gender binary, trans and gender non-conforming identities, intersecting identities for QTPOC (queer/trans people of color), homophobia and transphobia, the experiences of LGBTQ+ children and teens, how to make a college or school open and affirming for LGBTQ+ folks, and educational policy related to LGBTQ+ inclusion. We will reflect on our social and personal identities, as well as our academic identities and values - such as our reasons for being in college, goals for the academic year, personal values, and priorities for college.
