First-year (R1ST) Title: Exploring the Invisible: The Wonders of Subatomic Particles

Description: Ever wondered what constitutes the building blocks of the universe, beyond what meets the eye? What are we made of? How was everything created in the very first place? What is smaller than the smallest thing you can imagine, yet shapes everything around us?
In this course, we will briefly explore the fundamental facts about our existence from a physics perspective. We will learn how to think, question, and critique everything we observe to better understand Nature and the Universe. We will discuss the following: How do scientists peep into the invisible world of particles too tiny to see? What secrets might these hidden particles hold about the mysteries of the cosmos? Could understanding them lead to mind-blowing discoveries and inventions?
This class is a perfect place to start unravelling the secrets of the invisible universe and embark on a fascinating journey of discovery. No scientific background is required!
Like all First Year Seminars, we will also cover skills to help you succeed in your first semester at UMass Amherst.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
