First-year (R1ST) Title: Physics in Everyday Life
Description: Physics seems out of reach for many, but since its purpose is to explain the universe, surely it can explain everyday life! Why does a car colliding with another car result in the same damage as colliding with a brick wall? Why do we feel a 'Need for Speed'? Why do objects have a small lurch when they start to move? Do you have questions about physics and how it might affect you? This is the place for you! We will explore topics like the 3-body problem, how artificial gravity could work, and what is the 'butterfly effect.' Like other First Year Seminars, we will also cover skills to help you succeed in your first semester at UMass Amherst.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
