First-year (R1ST) Title: Who Turned Off The Lights!! - Energy Transitions In A Globalized World
Description: Electricity powers so much of our lives that we rarely stop to think about where it comes from and the consequences of what our consumption might be. We'll look at historic examples of energy use throughout human history, including classical examples, advances of the Industrial Revolution and post-WWII, the present day and into the future! We will delve into fossil fuels, renewable energy alternatives and the environmental, technological, and policy aspects of its production and consumption to better understand their benefits and challenges. Interactive discussion, case studies, and hands-on group work will equip you with the knowledge to advocate and participate in the shift to more sustainable energy solutions and practices.
In addition to our course topic, we will also strive to make your college experience more fun, accessible, and stress-free by sharing useful resources, making connections, and developing habits that will lead to a successful balance between academic and social life as you navigate your first year of college.
