In this course, students examine the definition of religion, its role in gender discrimination, the influence of time on its operation, and the problem of violence and religion as they learn about Shinto, Buddhism, and new religions of Japan. The course thus helps students to broaden their perspectives concerning religion, as well as to gain basic understanding of Japanese culture. (Gen. Ed. HS, DG)
