This course provides an introduction and experiential sampler of skills and topics related to cultivating connection and wellbeing at UMass. Anchored in the CoJourn program of paired support, students will have an opportunity to work in accountability partnerships. They will learn about skills/areas of wellbeing such as goal-setting, active listening, self-compassion, and thriving. Other experiential wellness methodologies such as story share, mindfulness practice, dynamic mindfulness, and forest bathing will be incorporated into the curriculum. The intersection between social justice, health equity and access will be woven through the curriculum. The course will also highlight campus resources that supported continued wellbeing journeys, including overview of the peer-related wellbeing entities/roles on campus (Residential Life, Peer Health Educators, Meditation Practicum, Nutrition Advisors, etc), the resilience based curricula (Science of Thriving, Positivity and Relaxation Training), extra curricular organizations devoted to wellbeing, and finally resources (Campus Recreation and Wellbeing, UHS, Student Engagement and Leadership, etc.). Students will be asked to map their wellbeing journey (past, present and future) as a final reflection in the class.

Open to first-year students.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
