In our hyper-visual culture, presenting research in a visually engaging way can be a powerful means by which to share your work, increase awareness and legibility of research, and generally make scholarship more accessible. Communicating research is critical for getting it into the hands and minds of public audiences, policy makers, community partners, and scholars in your own field and in other disciplines. At its core, research is about telling stories ? whether writing grants, creating compelling presentations, or authoring books and articles, your research must tell a compelling story. Communicating research through visual methods -- such as comics, animation, virtual reality (VR), and other arts-based methods -- requires that we tell engaging stories. Furthermore, comics, animation, VR and other visual and arts-based forms are enjoyable to create, bringing much needed creativity to our work lives, while at the same time helping us to democratize knowledge and fulfill ethical responsibilities to engage in research exchange outside the academy.
