Presents advanced topics in architectural and construction-focused CAD in a problem-based environment. Topics covered are: 3D modeling, digital fabrication, parametric building design, Building Information Modeling (BIM), material takeoff, building-energy analysis and planning, laser scanning, rendering and presentation. This course provides a thorough introduction into Autodesk Revit and covers applied topics in Trimble SketchUp, both industry-standard software in the AEC field. Basic previous CAD knowledge (e.g. in AutoCAD, SketchUp) is expected (e.g. from BCT 320 or a similar course).
Prerequisites: BCT 320 or similar introductory CAD experience (by instructor permission).
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops to class and install required software. (see syllabus for details)
Meets with ECO 620.
This course is being taught in a flexible manner that allows students to take it in a way that works best for them. Weekly meetings are available in-person, on Zoom (both synchronous), and as recordings (asynchronous). Hands-on class components (labs and similar) can be attended in-person or completed as a remote activity. Note that some meetings may require synchronous attendance (unless that poses a hardship).
