Using computers for system design and decision making under uncertainty. Monte Carlo methods, modeling discrete-event stochastic systems, random number generation, time-advance mechanisms, output analysis, simulation-based optimization.

Open to Computer Science graduate students (MS-CMPSCI) LECT 01 FOR UNDERGRADS; LECT 02 FOR GRADS. SEATS HELD IN LECT 02 FOR INCOMING GRAD STUDENTS. SOME BACKGROUND IN STOCHASTIC PROCESSES IS HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED, AS THE MATERIAL WILL BE DEVELOPED IN CLASS.
