First-year (R1ST) Title: Enlightened: Shining Light on Queer History and Science
Queer people have existed throughout world history, yet their rich cultural contributions are missing from the history books. While it's rare to find discrete binaries in nature, our basic biology classes normalize the male/female dichotomy across the animal kingdom, as well as ignoring same sex pairing in animals. Why is this? Who benefits from erasing this information from basic education? Let's shine light on these topics. This class is for anyone interested in these topics, and all are welcome to this safe space where differences are celebrated and supported. Like other First Year Seminar courses, we will also learn and practice skills for college success.
