First-year (R1ST) Title: Monkey Business - Evolution, Ecology and Conservation of Our Closest Relatives
Primates are one of the most diverse and widespread mammalian orders on Earth, yet they are also some of the most threatened and endangered species due to anthropogenic impacts. In this class we will learn about the Primate Order, which includes monkeys, lemurs, lorises, galagos, and apes (including us humans). Specifically, we will focus on primate evolution, behavior, ecology, and conservation. We will engage in hands-on activities using specimens in order to compare primates to other animals and to each other. You'll see how evolutionary adaptations and behaviors are intertwined. We will also explore the primary threats and urgent conservation challenges primates face and investigate potential solutions. Lastly, this course will provide you with an introduction to UMass and campus resources, while also teaching you ?how to college.? So, get ready to learn more about yourself, UMass, and primatology in this fun introduction to primates!

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
