First-year (R1ST) Title: Trash Talk: How Society Can (and Can't) Solve Plastic Pollution
Is plastic bad? Is the fear surrounding it warranted? If it is such a concern, how can you reduce your plastic exposure? Together, we will learn the basics of pollution and where plastics (and microplastics!) fit in. We will look at the actions UMass has made to reduce plastic pollution, where it may fall short, and brainstorm new ideas to implement both on a personal scale and large-scale. Additionally, we will develop skills for success in your first semester at university, identify resources on campus, and discover what fun activities UMass has to offer!
