This course surveys topics and classical problems in flight mechanics that are relevant to aerospace, including applications in both air and space. There are numerous technical considerations in the design of aircraft to facilitate prolonged flight. This course focuses on three topics: airfoil and wing design, elements of airplane performance, and mechanical components necessary for propulsion. Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of flight including atmospheric constraints and the basics of aerodynamics. Students will also be introduced to methods for design and analysis of aircraft which will culminate in a group project intended to incorporate basic design concepts discussed in the course.

M&I-ENG 340 This course satisfies a technical elective for Mechanical Engineering majors.
