This course focuses on the role anatomy and physiology play in the development of biomedical solutions to disease. The course will cover anatomy and physiology of key systems related to biomedical engineering, with a focus on the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and neural systems. For each system, the anatomy and physiology will be covered in detail. Next, a selection of pathophysiology will be discussed and bioengineering challenges and solutions described. It is expected that after the course, students will become comfortable interpreting and translating medical information and pathologies and be able to communicate engineering solutions to these challenges to a non-engineering audience.

Graduate students only. This course does not count as a BME technical elective for undergraduate students.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
