Nobel Prize Fictions is designed to familiarize students with contemporary literature within the framework of a prestigious literary award. The course will focus on the recipients of the prize in this millennium and will address questions of current social, political, cultural, relevance in relation to literature. Each week will be dedicated to the study of one Nobel laureate and the theme will be set by the Swedish Academy?s statement for the recipient of the award. As such the literary texts will be put in dialogue with the rationale behind the award and enable a discussion that expands into aesthetics, politics and literary history. (Gen. Ed. AL)
