This course introduces the basic principles and applications of optical materials, components, systems, processing, and characterization methods. Furthermore, it explores the fundamentals of optical and optoelectronic phenomena and devices, based on classical and quantum properties of radiation and matter. This course also provides the fundamental knowledge for understanding optical metamaterials and their applications. This course will be particularly useful for graduate students who want to learn contemporary optical engineering and photonics without particular prerequisites.

Open to graduate Mechanical Engineering majors. Instructor permission is otherwise required to be enrolled.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
