This course traces the historical trajectory of Brazil from 1770 to the present through interdisciplinary and interactive musical analysis. The course is structured in chronological and thematic modules, covering topics such as indigenous and African influence, resistance and protest, migration, (post-)colonialism, and social inequalities. The class is conducted in Portuguese and no specific prior knowledge of music or the history/culture of Brazil is presumed.
