Population-based epidemiologic datasets provide critical public health metrics and are used to assess population-level health, set public health priorities, conduct research, and in a variety of other public health activities. This course provides an overview of different existing population-based epidemiologic datasets and introduces students to accessing, analyzing, and interpreting population-based data. Building on the content introduced in foundational epidemiology and biostatistics courses, this course will reinforce and synthesize concepts related study design, sampling, and data analysis. In addition, it will also introduce students to additional analysis strategies for survey-weight data as well as coding strategies to generating output into other formats, such as a spreadsheet. Students will use large and complex epidemiologic datasets as well as statistical programming software throughout the semester. Through a semester long project, students will identify appropriate datasets and variables, perform data management and analysis, prepare tables of results, and communicate findings.
