This seminar invites first-year students to explore interconnection as a way of understanding themselves, their learning, and their place in a rapidly changing world. Drawing on ideas about consciousness, mindful attention, digital media use, belonging, well-being, and the social, emotional, and ethical dimensions of learning, the course asks how our habits of thinking, relating, and communicating shape both personal and collective life. Students will reflect on what it means to learn in a university setting, how to use media more consciously, and how education can foster belonging, purpose, and responsibility. Through discussion, reflection, and practical exercises, the seminar helps students build skills for navigating college life with greater self-awareness, balance, and connection to others. The course treats learning not simply as academic achievement, but as part of a larger process of becoming thoughtful, grounded, and engaged members of a community who can contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
