How does the music one creates, listens to, and performs reflect their identity? Also, how do social and cultural influences, including peers, family, community, and schooling, shape how we view ourselves? Graduating from high school and starting a degree program at a university is a major transition that can result in changes in our identity. Oftentimes, music is a part of the journey of identity transformation and can serve as markers for important moments in our lives. Throughout this seminar, we'll explore how participation in musical processes, including composing, performing, and listening, facilitate opportunities for self-exploration, expression, and identity development. We'll also explore how social environments influence one's musical and personal identities. Finally, we'll discuss strategies to successfully navigate your college career and create goals to help you realize your vision for yourself at the end of your first year, the end of college, and beyond.
