First-year (R1ST) Course Title: Parasites: in defense of the unloved
Parasites: life-sucking organisms to be exterminated? Or life-shaping organisms maintaining balance in our environments? Although generally unpopular, parasites stand as the most biologically successful creatures on the planet. You may see parasites as freeloaders, but by the end of this course you will be able to appreciate these organisms? contribution to the wonderful diversity of our world and their profound impact on life as we know it. In this course you will engineer a parasite, explore perspective-shifting contexts and meet some real-life parasites. Join us, and become a defender of the unloved! In symbiosis with these parasitic explorations, you will develop strategies and skills to navigate being a college student, find your support systems, and ensure your success in your first semester of college and beyond.
