As you transition to life at UMass, it is important to understand how to take care of yourself and your mental health. In this course, we will explore important resources on campus and methods of self-care through story-telling, discussion, and personal reflection. By better understanding the necessity of self-care using a critical lens, you will be better equipped to make the transition into college life. These experiences will ultimately lead to a better understanding of your academic path and professional goals

First-year (R1ST) Becoming Educators and Leaders: Building Purpose and Community in College

This seminar invites first-year students to think about college as more than a series of separate classes and assignments. Students will explore how their interests, goals, and relationships can connect to shape a meaningful path through college and into the field of education. Through discussion, reflection, and practical strategies, the course helps students navigate campus resources, build community, manage time and stress, and grow as learners and leaders. Students will also consider how the habits and values they develop now can shape the educators and community members they become. The seminar is designed to help students feel supported, purposeful, and confident in their transition to college.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
