There's more than one way to find success in college and the path to getting there is different for every student. Our goals in this course are to connect with fellow students and the instructor as you become a contributing member of the community, both at UMass and beyond; start planning your individual academic goals and pathways toward achieving them; explore the different majors in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and start thinking like a social scientist.

Open to first-year students. First-year (R1ST) Topic: Anthropology
This course is designed to help first year students develop skills and habits for college success. It is also an introduction to anthropology, particularly biological anthropology- the study of human evolution, human biology, and primates. In this course you will learn about campus resources, share your experiences adjusting to independent college life, and explore key questions in biological anthropology, such as: What are the origins of humanity? Who are our closest living relatives? We will address these topics and questions through discussions, group activities and hands-on experiences examining specimens, and assignments.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
