Open to first-year students. First-year (R1ST) The Economics Department offers this seminar to first-year students to introduce the field of economics and aid students in the transition to UMass Amherst. This course follows the College of Social and Behavioral Science's Pathways framework for developing as a college student. We will discuss important topics such as independent living, academic success, and using University resources. At the same time, we will give students an introduction to economics by considering a new and major part of your life, higher education. Students will learn about major elements of funding, debt, structure, and more relating to higher education in the United States to develop critical economic thinking skills, institutional vocabulary, and political economic analysis.
