Populism has emerged as the dominant concept and experience in the vocabulary and landscape of contemporary European and American political culture. It is presented as the trademark of recent transformations in Greece, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Populism is a paradox at the center of liberal democracy. On the one hand, the people are defined as the ?sovereign authority? as well as the ?fountain? of legitimacy for any representative government. On the other hand, the people are never seen fit to exercise directly the functions of government. This seminar is located in contemporary political theory and envisioned as a theoretical and political examination of populism. One of the main focuses will be Trump?s policies and the spectacles defining him as important elements in the conversation.
