This is an advanced graduate-level seminar designed to explore diverse aspect of adolescent development. We will discuss research on biological, cognitive, social, and emotional development, focusing on topics such as, pubertal development and its social consequences, changing relationships with families, self and identity development, interaction with peers, school adjustment, and risk-taking behaviors. Through this course, students will be able to: 1) identify the major subfields of adolescent development and recognize how each of these areas of research contribute to our understanding of the teenage mind, brain, and behavior, 2) understand the scientific methodologies used in psychological and brain based research of adolescent development, and 3) effectively communicate the scientific knowledge in written and verbal form.
Open to Graduate Psychology majors only.
