School of Pub Hlth & Hlth Sci 890J - Disseminating Your Research

This course will cover a range of methods through which research findings can be disseminated. Modules will include: demystifying academic publishing; writing for the general public; an introduction to structures and services at UMass to support mass media engagement; oral communication of findings, including elevator speeches and mock interviews in the style of popular media; communicating research to policy audiences; and how to track dissemination reach and impact. Worked examples will be provided for each dissemination modality. The course will be highly interactive; students are expected to bring a research project or paper they have completed or will soon complete in order to practice applying different dissemination modalities in their own subject areas.
