Astronomy 228 - Astrophysics I: Stars&Galaxies

An introductory course appropriate for science majors, engineering majors, and students with a strong math and science background. Topics include: the observed properties of stars and the methods used to determine them, the structure and evolution of stars, the end-points of stellar evolution, our galaxy, the interstellar medium, external galaxies, quasars, and cosmology. Prerequisite: 1 semester of calculus.

Pre Req: 1 semester Calculus Attendance is mandatory at the first two class sessions. Enrolled students who fail to show up may be dropped from the class. Students who wish to enroll, but who are restricted from enrolling on SPIRE, may speak wirth the instructor after class.

A semester of Physics at the college level is highly recommended, or permission of instructor. This is an in depth course intended for science majors.
