This course is designed to provide a learning community for all students to discuss the value of, importance in, and skills to contribute to positive social change as a student leader in the residence halls at UMass Amherst.

Students will be manually enrolled into this course. This course is required for all students offered a placement or waitlist position for the Resident Assistant (RA) or Peer Mentor (PM) roles for the 2026-2027 academic year. To remain eligible for these positions, candidates must successfully complete the course prior to the start of their employment. Enrollment is limited to students who have been hired or waitlisted through the RA/PM selection process for the 2026-2027 cycle. Once offers are made, students will receive instructions on how to register. The purpose of this course is to provide a learning community for all students to discuss the value of, importance in, and skills to contribute to positive social change as a student leader in the residence halls at UMass Amherst. This course meets for eight weeks for two hours a week. The first class of the semester will be the week of March 2, 2026, and the last class of the semester will be the week of May 4, 2026.
