This course provides an in-depth application of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) in complex and specialized clinical conditions across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based practice, and interdisciplinary care in the management of critically and chronically ill, and nutritionally at-risk populations. Students will refine skills in the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), nutrition-focused physical examination (NFPE), interpretation of clinical and biochemical data, and development of comprehensive nutrition care plans. Case studies, simulated electronic health records (EHRs), simulation laboratory experiences, and interprofessional scenarios are used to enhance student?s clinical decision-making. Topics include medical nutrition therapy for major organ systems and metabolic disorders, oncology, pediatrics, and nutrition support.
