U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America, national and coordinated policies of Latin American states towards the United States, and - to a lesser degree - relationships among Latin American countries. Historical developments in U.S.-Latin American relations, key policy areas, the main institutions and groups included in policy making, the policy options available, and likely reasons for - and interests served by - particular policy choices. Emphasis on consequences of asymmetric power relations, the roles of public opinion and ideology in constraining policy options, and the relationship between domestic politics and foreign policy.

Open to junior and senior Political Science majors and minors. POLISCI 255 strongly recommended, but not required.
