This course provides students with an overview of psychological theories on group processes and intergroup relations. Through an exploration of both classic and contemporary theories and specific research studies, we will examine how people are influenced as members of groups, how they interact with members of other groups, and how they perceive and respond to the intergroup contexts in which they live. The course will consist primarily of lectures, with opportunities for large-group and small-group discussions in response to films and class exercises. This course has been designed for students to explore a variety of perspectives concerning how people perceive, evaluate, and interact with each other as members of different groups. Satisfies Criteria 2 and 3 of the Integrative Experience requirement for PSYCH majors.

This course is open to PSYCH majors only. Pre Req: PSYCH 241 & 360 Advanced IE Elective Course: When taken in combination with Psych 494PI, this course can count towards the Integrative Experience (IE) requirement for Primary Psychology majors. This course and 494PI do not need to be taken in the same semester.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
