Market structure models with application to various industries. Firm behavioral strategies under different market structures. The role of product differentiation, advertising, market power, mergers, barriers to entry, price and non-price rivalry. Market performance including welfare, costs, and profits. BS Managerial Economics majors can satisfy their Integrative Experience requirement by taking this course plus Res-Econ 394LI and 453.

Open to MGRECON and ENRE (previously RES-ECON) majors and minors. ECON 203 or RES-ECON 202 In this section of RES-ECON 452, students will watch lecture videos and take a quiz before coming to class. In class, students will work in teams to solve problems and discuss applications that reinforce the concepts from the lecture videos, for half of class time. The other half of class time will be used by the instructor for didactic teaching.

Students who are unable to enroll in this course because all sections are full can submit a RES-ECON waitlist request. The form can be found here: https://www.umass.edu/resource-economics/advising-0. Once the semester begins, students must contact the instructor to request permission to enroll.
