Honors Project

Honors project expectations are high. The intended end-product is a traditional project manuscript with accompanying artifact(s), all projects:
- are 6 credits or more of sustained research on a single topic, typically conducted over two semesters.
- begin with creative inquiry and systematic research.
- include documentation of substantive scholarly endeavor.
- culminate in an oral defense or other form of public presentation.

Honors Independent Study

This is a stand-alone independent study designed by the student and faculty sponsor that involves frequent interaction between instructor and student. Qualitative and quantitative enrichment must be evident on the proposed contract before consent is given to undertake the study. Registration should be done during pre-registration and completed by the end of the add-drop period.

INTRO TO CREATIVE WRITING

This coursefamiliarizes students with key aspects of structure and form in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. We focus in turn on such elements of creative writing as imagery, diction, figurative language, character, setting, and plot. Students draft, workshop, and revise three pieces of writing over the course of the semester, one each in the genres of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Enrollment limited to 12. (E)

PROGRAM WITH DATA STRUCTURES

Explores elementary data structures (linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, graphs) and algorithms (searching, sorting) in a variety of contexts, including event-driven applications with a graphical user interface. Emphasizes object-oriented programming throughout, using the Java programming language. Prerequisite: CSC 111.

Independent Study

In this class, students will acquire hands-on experience in diverse aspects of the research process in any field of Biology, from familiarizing themselves with a research topic, generating interesting questions, designing experiments, acquiring technical skills, collecting and analyzing data, to writing and/or presenting their results. To inquire about enrollment, students should approach a Biological Sciences faculty member to identify mutual areas of interest.
