Intro Civil&EnvirEngin Measurm

With lab. Introduction to various measurements used in civil engineering. Topics include basic surveying principles involving linear and angular measurement, leveling, traversing, and stadia. Also, smaller scale measurements, such as displacemnt and load. Includes precision instruments such as verniers, calipers, micrometers and load cells. Prerequisite: MATH 131.

Intro to Envir&Water Res Engin

With Lab. Introduction to environmental engineering with a focus on physical, chemical, and biological principles. Topics include environmental standards and legislation, material balances, reaction kinetics, environmental chemistry and microbiology, biogeochemical cycles, water quality, water resources, air quality, and solid and hazardous wastes.

Prerequisite: MATH 331 and CHEM 112
Corequisite: CE-ENGIN 357

Adv Foundtn Eng&Earth Retn Sys

Geotechnical analysis and design related to shallow and deep foundations. Topics include: site investigations, bearing capacity theory, analysis and design of shallow spread footings, isolated pads and mat foundations; total stress and effective stress design of drilled shaft and driven pile foundations. Emphasis on the presentation of designs in a formal geotechnical report. Pre Req: CE-ENGIN 620

Soil Mechanics

With Lab. Properties of soil used in engineering including: soil classification; compaction; swelling and shrinkage; permeability and seepage; consolidation; strength and stiffness; and implications of soil for civil engineering design. Prerequisite: CE-ENGIN 241or M&I-ENG 211. Co-requisite: CE-ENGIN 357.
