This is a writing-intensive course that fulfills the University's Junior Writing requirement. Each section focuses on a particular aspect of current issues in psychology. The topic is selected based on the expertise of the teaching staff. All sections share similar writing assignments, ranging from in-class short writing assignments to lengthy papers that include literature review. Classes emphasize discussion and extensive peer review of written work. Topics for individual sections will not be available until shortly before the start of the semester.

Behavior is generated by the interplay between hormones and the brain. In this course, human and animal research will be examined to explore how the endocrine and nervous systems interact to control functions such as reproductive behaviors, aggression, and food intake. The course will also examine how the brain modifies hormone levels to cope with changing environmental conditions and stress.

An introduction to the neural basis of behavior. Topics include neuroanatomy, neuron function, the control of hunger, sex, sleep, emotion, drug addiction and memory.

If you have seen shows like Criminal Minds, Mindhunter, or CSI, then you are already familiar with the Hollywood version of Forensic Psychology. But what is fact and what is fiction? The aim of this course is to introduce students to the reality of how the field of psychology impacts nearly every aspect of our criminal justice system, from crimes to convictions. Specific topics include criminal profiling, interrogations, lie detection, eye-witness testimony, the insanity defense and insights into the criminal mind.

The PBS Research Assistant Mentoring Program (RAMP) aims to introduce a diverse group of students to Psychology and Neuroscience research early in their college careers. New first-year and transfer students accepted to the program will register for a 1-2 credit Research Assistantship (Psych 398B) that will primarily involve attending weekly lab meetings and shadowing a junior or senior student already working in a lab to learn more about the research process.

This course examines the social, historical, cultural, and political construction of categories of disability. Through a wide variety of texts and cultural examples, we will study various meanings of disability.
