Pediatric Exercise Physiology

This course will cover the immediate and long-term responses to exercise in youth, emphasizing their unique physiologic responses, compared to adults. In addition, we will discuss measurement of physical activity, the role of physical activity and exercise on chronic diseases in youth, and physical activity interventions in youth. Students will critically evaluate current research studies and identify areas for future research.

Muscle Mechanics & Modeling

Introduction to the mechanical properties of human muscle, and evaluation of the importance of these properties in human movement. Topics include: research methods used to describe these properties, and the role of modeling in understanding muscular properties and segmental motion patterns. Laboratory experience includes using a computer muscle model.
