This is an experiential course that will explore the opportunities and challenges presented by generative AI and its impact on society. The primary focus of this course is on investigating how gen AI, as a public interest technology, can enhance human cognitive interactions with the world; it is also focused on increasing awareness of the potential ways it could de- or downgrade it. Students will have the opportunity to develop hands-on experience through prompt-engineering exercises that build gen AI literacy.

This course orients music analysts to the process of meaning-making via semiotics, or the study of signification. Starting with foundational readings in semiotics, we will then explore topics in musical narrative, performance and analysis, and music?s role in the formation of social relationships. Through and alongside our readings, we will regularly put theory into practice, with one focal analysis and one or more readings per week.

Continued introduction to classical Latin vocabulary, grammar, and syntax via readings in Latin, with background on Roman imperial society. Prerequisite: LATIN 110 or equivalent with a grade of C or higher.

R has emerged as a preferred programming language in data science. This course covers an introduction to topics in R programming to develop powerful, robust, and reusable data science tools. Main topics include importing of data, data wrangling, visualization, and reporting.

This course will survey current approaches to educational policy, specifically with regard to the mission of addressing inequality. Students will explore the systems and structures that constitute the policy environment, scrutinize the assumptions and ideological underpinnings of different political camps, and examine the dynamic interactions between and among the actors shaping American public education. Additionally, students will look at various reform efforts and models, considering their use in the effort to transform outcomes.

A two-credit class that guides students through the proposal writing process required for entry into the BDIC major. Students will investigate career and graduate school options, finalize their course selections for the BDIC major and choose a faculty sponsor within the scope of the class.
