Toxic Fashion

What are the hidden health risks of fashion? This class will explore the toxic aspects of clothing manufacturing, dying, fabrics, accessories, cosmetics and more, focusing on toxic chemicals, microplastics, and other hidden costs. Through readings, videos, and classroom dialogs, we will consider modern practices and chemical usage within the fashion industry, historical case studies, as well as local and global examples. We will examine integrated impacts of the fashion industry on the environment, wildlife, and human health through a one-health framework.

Public Health Communications

The public health community - individuals and organizations - have an important role to play in shaping how populations receive and gain access to accurate health information. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention defines health communication as "the and use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that enhance health." This class will provide an introduction to the issues and methods associated with effective communication of health related information. Fulfills Junior Year Writing requirement.

Consumer Behavior

Application of behavioral science theories and marketing theories to an understanding of the behavior of consumers. Exploration of consumer decision making and involvement as well as psychological and social factors that influence the consumer. Prerequisites: MARKETNG 301

Gender, Sexuality and Culture

This course offers an introduction to some of the basic concepts and theoretical perspectives in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Drawing on disciplinary, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural studies, students will engage critically with issues such as gender inequities, sexuality, families, work, media images, queer issues, masculinity, reproductive rights, and history. Throughout the course, students will explore how experiences of gender and sexuality intersect with other social constructs of difference, including race/ethnicity, class, and age.

Advanced Human Performance

This course explores advanced training principles and methodologies currently utilized in elite strength and conditioning environments. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on experience, this course bridges the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. Students will examine athletic performance enhancement through biomechanical, physiological, and neuromuscular lenses, using evidence-based program design and contemporary programming models.
