Sport Law

A presentation of the basic legal system, its terminology, and principles as applied to professional and amateur sports. Emphasis on identifying and analyzing legal issues, the ramifications of those issues, and the means of limiting the liability of sport organizations.

College Athletics

An introduction to the management of college athletics, including a review of the organizational structure in regards to the intercollegiate athletic department, conferences, and the NCAA. Analysis of the prevailing issues in college athletics including financial trends, academic recruiting legislation, conference realignment, reform, and Title IX/gender equity.

ST- Contemp Hispanic Cinema

This course gathers together an array of recent Latin American, Spanish, Caribbean, and Latinx films with an emphasis on addressing the experiences of marginalized people. We will explore the historical and cultural contexts in which these films are made and seen, in many cases reaching vast audiences across the world, and we will push at the boundaries of the category "Hispanic" in cinema.

ST-FightFascism:SpanishCivWar

In this course we will study how the Spanish Civil War has been portrayed and memorialized in literature, film, theater, and art. Our course will focus on the representation of the fight against fascism that happened in Spain and abroad by among others George Orwell, Ernest Hemingway, and Pablo Neruda. We will pay special attention to archives of the American volunteers that formed the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Other materials include recent scholarship on the Spanish Civil War, Picasso's Guernica, Robert Capa and Gerda Taro's photographies, films, plays, and performances.

Lit Currnts-Spain I

Introduction to the literature of Spain from the Middle Ages to 1700. Emphasis on literary currents and their relation to history and culture of the period. Representative poetry, narrative, drama. Prerequisite: SPANISH 311 or consent of instructor. (Gen.Ed. AL)
