Students select one of the four introductory engineering courses (ENGIN 110, 111, 112, or 113). Within a small class, student teams explore real engineering designs. Students select one of the four introductory engineering courses (ENGIN 110, 111, 112, or 113). Within a small class, student teams explore real engineering designs. This course is intended to provide beginning engineering students with a clear overview of the field of biomedical engineering so they can confidently decide if they want to pursue biomedical engineering as a profession. Throughout the semester, students will develop basic skills in problem-solving, computation, design, and communication that will help them in all future engineering courses.

College of Engineering freshman and new transfer students are brought together in small groups with an Engineering upper-level student mentor. The mentor serves as a knowledgeable resource and support system for the individual as well as the group during their first semester of college. Benefits of the mentorship program include but are not limited to: immediate connection with an experienced Engineering student, meeting other first-year students who share similar academic and/or extracurricular interests, and a friendly supportive environment to share experiences and/or concerns.

This course provides beginning engineering students with an overview of the fields of electrical and computer engineering, mechanical and industrial engineering, civil and environmental engineering, and chemical engineering so they can confidently decide which engineering discipline to pursue as a profession. Throughout the semester, students will develop basic skills in problem-solving, computation, design, and communication that will help them in all future engineering courses.
