This course is a basic, interdisciplinary introduction to the contemporary Middle East, and uses three substances central to contemporary society as organizing metaphors for issues that help define the region that stretches from Morocco to Iran. We consider a wide range of topics including the modern legacy of Western colonialism in the region, the impact of oil, the roles of religion, gender politics, Arab-Israeli conflicts, and US policies towards the region. Focus on antitrust and competition policies (e.g., those covering collusive restraints of trade, monopolization, and mergers) and on policies that affect product quality and information (e.g., product standards, regulation of advertising and labeling). BS Managerial Economics majors can satisfy their Integrative Experience requirement by taking this course plus Res-Econ 394LI and 452.

Some of you will get jobs performing analysis, while some of you will need to judge the credibility of the analysis done by others. The goal of this class is to introduce you to decision analysis. Decision Analysis covers how to best make decisions in an uncertain world. Topic include belief formation and updating, logical decision making and avoiding common decision errors, and appropriate information gathering.

This course provides students with a preamble to the formal analysis of syntactic theory as applied to Spanish sentence structure. Syntactic Structure of Spanish presents a broad view of syntactic theory while exploring phenomena that are specific to the Spanish language, such as: null subject pronouns, clitic doubling, particle "a", postverbal subjects, preverbal adverbs, and different uses of the particle "se".

Analysis of the roles of political parties in elections and in government. Emphasis on elections and democratic theory; voting behavior; party organizations, PACs, and money in congressional and presidential elections; political parties and the governmental process; and parties as sources of continuity and vehicles for change in American politics.
