The main goal of the STEM mentoring program is to increase middle school students? STEM content knowledge and career interest through authentic scientific inquiry in a mentored after-school program. As a STEM Mentor you will build relationships with at-risk youth that support student self-efficacy as well as building key life and career skills.

This course builds upon the Freshman STEM Ambassadors Program Experience. The sophomore experience is approximately 50% research experience & 50% STEM AP programming.

This is a continuation of the Fall course. Students work in small groups with a research faculty advisor and graduate student mentor. They engage in a variety of activities related to STEM research, education and outreach. Students experience the STEM research culture at the university, engage in group and independent research projects, engage in mentoring middles school students, and interact with a diversity of STEM professionals.

Studio. Study of "seeing": concentration on the articulation of visual pictures developed from a dramatic text and on research; functions and qualities of light and the development of lighting concepts. Practical application of design through specific crew assignments on Department productions.

This graduate seminar in dramaturgy each semester goes in depth into a special topic. Topics to include: Multicultural Theater Practice, Performance Theory, Avant-Garde Theater, Production Dramaturgy, Translation, Adaptation, and Dramaturgical Writing. Continuation of THEATER 362. Costume design theory, conceptualization, and solution of related problems. Design projects, concept papers, journal, sketch book, and appropriate design work for department productions. Prerequisites: 300-level theater courses or equivalent, consent of instructor. May be repeated for credit. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Theatr majors.

This course explores the art of contemporary theater and the power of live performance through a series of shows the students attend in person, along with theater projects they create in a group. Through engagement with both longstanding and new ways of making theater, students will gain exposure to how live theater is being made in the world today -- an exciting moment of new frontiers and forms.
