Moving Image Dreams

Our dreams are a place where the impossible can happen, opposites can collide and both reality and time can be subverted. In this course, students will keep an active dream journal which will serve as a source of creative inspiration for the development of different forms of time-based work. Our course content will include technical demos, readings, discussions, screenings and critiques. This course will provide students with an introduction to working with video in Adobe Premiere Pro. We will cover moving image basics in exposure, composition, sound and digital editing.

Reading the World

What is happening in the world? This course focuses on a simple activity: reading the news to understand the world we live in. We will learn to read the news to better understand our world, learning how to read and write as we engage with international politics. We will explore mainstream and grassroot media to discuss what events are framed as globally news while others are silenced, whose voices are amplified, and how stories shape public opinion, policy decisions, and international action. We will ask critical questions: Who gets to tell global affairs?
