Journey/Hispanic Caribbean

This course is an introduction to the literature, art and culture of the Hispanic Caribbean, both insular and continental. Analysis and discussion on the main authors and artists from the region, in order to explore intersections between literature, art, history and geo-political situation.

Interactive Fiction

Readers and spectators are always implicitly involved in the creation of an artwork?perhaps as interpreters or as respondents. But what happens when that work explicitly invites one to collaborate in its fictional world, to act in its arena? We live in an increasingly interactive environment, where even our appliances respond to our spoken requests. How might we employ a critical awareness of our relationships to these new technologies and the people, places, and things with which they connect us?

American Experience

Using the thematic of immigration to and migration within the United States, this course will explore "American experiences" from the early 20th century to the present. Course materials will include literature, films, visual art, and other media forms, with an eye to how each text gives representational shape to the experiences they depict. We will concentrate especially on how they negotiate issues of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality. (Gen. Ed. AL, DU)
