Fundamentals

An introduction to chemical engineering problem-solving methods. Basic chemical engineering principles and their application to chemical processes studied. Concepts include pressure, temperature, volume, heat capacity, and mass and energy balances. (Gen. Ed. R2)

Digital Signal Proc

With lab. IIR and FIR digital filter design. Applications of DFT and FFT. Transform domain analysis of discrete-time (DT) linear time-invariant systems: minimum phase, allpass, linear phase systems. Im-plementation of DT systems. Finite wordlength effects. Multirate digital signal processing. Power spectrum estimation. Lab includes projects using digital signal processors. Prerequisite: E&C-ENG 563.

Intro/Security Engin colloq

This honors colloquium combines theory and experimentation in security engineering. The colloquium will focus on Machine Learning and the threats and vulnerabilities that arise in embedded applications, focusing on image analysis. It will build on the security engineering principles and methods developed in the main part of the course. Students will use modern cloud-based software packages and data-sets from the ML research community and will leverage current UMass research in secure embedded systems.

SignalProcessingMethods colloq

This honors colloquium will be project and team-oriented. The project will have some connection to the broad field of signals and systems including, but not restricted to, the topic areas: Digital communication systems, Digital signal and image processing, Computer networks/communications, Feedback control systems. The projects will be coding and simulation-based, using MATLAB, Python, and Simulink. Projects with a hardware component will also be considered on an individual basis.

Portuguese Civilization

Chronological, artistic, and philosophical perspective for the study of Portuguese literature and culture. Comprehensive view of the development of Portuguese culture, mainly through plastic arts. Provides background for the in-depth study of Portuguese literature. Prerequisite: PORTUG 240 or consent of instructor.

ST-VeterinaryMedicalTerminolgy

This seminar course covers veterinary medical terminology with an emphasis on term origins, roots, prefixes, suffixes, and pronunciation. Other topics covered include abbreviations and symbols, terms used to describe animal anatomy, occupational terms and interpretation of medical reports and records. This course is suited to students planning to enter careers in veterinary medicine.

Audiology Practice Mgmt

This course is designed to provide an introduction to practice management in audiology. A practice is a professional organization which sets objectives, maintains patient and business records, employs people, and provides a setting that supports personal growth and professional achievements. Management is defined to address three dimensions: business objectives, human organization, and public interest. Practice management will be considered in three categories: a broad set of core principles, management considerations, and business applications.
