The role of product differentiation, advertising, market power, mergers, barriers to entry, price and non-price rivalry. Market performance including prices, costs, profits, labor issues, and progressiveness. BS-ResEc majors can satisfy their Integrative Experience requirement by taking this course plus Res-Econ 394LI and 453.

Introduction to contemporary quantitative methods as applied to production, marketing and resource management problems in both private and public settings. Topics include: linear programming and decision making under uncertainty.

The purpose of this course is to present intermediate level microeconomic theory using calculus. In addition to the core topics in consumer theory, theory of the firm, and market structure, we will cover more advanced topics including Game Theory, Uncertainty, Asymmetric Information and Moral Hazard. We will use both geometric and mathematical approaches to economic analysis

As members of our society, we make many decisions that affect the environment and our natural resources. As consumers, employees, managers, voting members, or firm owners, our choices affect others around us, the environment and firm decisions. In this seminar, we will introduce a number of problems related to consumer choices, markets, firm and government decisions and the impacts of those choices on the environment, our natural resources and society in general.

Application of economic theory and quantitative analysis to the managerial decision-making process. Topics include: cost and production economics, demand analysis, business forecasting, investment project evaluation, and pricing and promotional strategies.

Rationale and structure of public policies that affect the operation of private markets in the U.S., with special emphasis on consumer goods industries. Focus on antitrust and competition policies (e.g., those covering collusive restraints of trade, monopolization, and mergers) and on policies that affect product quality and information (e.g., product standards, regulation of advertising and labeling). BS-ResEc majors can satisfy their Integrative Experience requirement by taking this course plus Res-Econ 394LI and 452.
