This course is intended to provide beginning engineering students with a clear overview of the field of biomedical engineering so they can confidently decide if they want to pursue biomedical engineering as a profession. Students select one of the four introductory engineering courses (ENGIN 110, 111, 112, or 113). Within a small class, student teams explore real engineering designs. This introduction to engineering design and/or manufacturing emphasizes development of communication skills (written, oral, and graphical). Project required.

This course is intended to provide beginning engineering students with a clear overview of the field of biomedical engineering so they can confidently decide if they want to pursue biomedical engineering as a profession. Throughout the semester, students will develop basic skills in problem-solving, computation, design, and communication that will help them in all future engineering courses.

College of Engineering freshman and new transfer students are brought together in small groups with an Engineering upper-level student mentor. The mentor serves as a knowledgeable resource and support system for the individual as well as the group during their first semester of college. Benefits of the mentorship program include but are not limited to: immediate connection with an experienced Engineering student, meeting other first-year students who share similar academic and/or extracurricular interests, and a friendly supportive environment to share experiences and/or concerns.
